Networking Meetings

Organizations providing activities for school age young people are invited to find out what is going on with other organizations in your area and learn more about the Youth Initiative and H.E.Y.! Help Empower Youth. In addition to networking, we will also discuss how organizations can help the Youth Initiative measure the success of our efforts.

Meetings are being held in the following locations:

Dover: Thursday, November 3rd from 8:45 – 10:15 am at the Dover Free Public Library

Bellows Falls: Monday, November 7th from 12:00 – 1:30 pm at Le Studio on Rt. 5

Brattleboro: Thursday, November 17th from 12:00 – 1:30 pm at the Marlboro Technology Center


Journeys toward Justice: A Restorative Justice Film Festival

Have you ever felt frustrated by our justice system? Wondered about another way to address hurt and repair harm? Asked yourself what does justice feel like?

You’ll have a chance to explore these questions and others at the Restorative Justice Film Festival. Come watch award-winning films and hear the compelling stories of victims and offenders- each who needed and found a different kind of justice than our system offers.

Hunger and the Nutrition Safety Net in Vermont:
A training for service providers, staff & volunteers who assist low-income Vermonters at schools, health centers, food shelves, community organizations, state agencies, etc.

Providing an in-depth look at:
• Hidden hunger: the reality of Vermont’s bleak statistics
• Lost potential: how hunger undermines children’s physical, cognitive & social development
• Hunger and obesity: the facts behind the paradox

2006 Brick Awards for Young Leaders

Do Something honors young leaders for their work in the areas of community development, the environment, and health. Eligible applicants include individuals who are 25 or younger. Winners in the under-18 age category will each receive a $5,000 scholarship, as well as a $5,000 grant to be used toward continued community service. Winners in the 19-25 age bracket will each receive a $10,000 community-service grant. Writing Contest

The Hear Me Project: Positively Negative HIV/AIDS 2005 Story Writing Contest
Sex. Condoms. Drugs. HIV. Risks. Responsibilities. Choices. Pressures. Boyfriends. Girlfriends. AIDS. Tell your story. It can be real life or made up. Entries can be up to 5 pages (typed or handwritten). The winner will get $500 and his/her story will be adapted into a short film. Entrants must be between the ages of 14 and 22. Your story must be about HIV/AIDS and be accompanied by a signed entry form. Submit your story by December 1st, 2005 (World AIDS Day). For more information please visit www.hearmeproject.org
