H.E.Y.!
Help Empower Youth
was developed in 2004 by the Youth
Initiative of Windham County out of United Way's office
in order to raise community awareness about how adults can acknowledge,
trust, support and involve youth.
The community partners who helped
to create the campaign believe that everyone has a role to
play in supporting and empowering young people. Families,
neighbors, schools -- all community members, need to be involved
in helping young people make healthy decisions and grow into
productive adults.
In
an effort to spread this message, news paper articles, brochures,
window stickers, newspaper ads, bumper stickers, videos and
more have been created and distributed around Windham County.
As
of March 2007, over 50% of the adult population in Windham
County surveyed had seen H.E.Y.! Help Empower Youth materials.
Over 100 people stated specific ways that they have reached
out to young as a result of the campaign.
