| September, 2004 Dear Community Member:
Please take a look at what's going on with the Windham County
Youth Initiative.
Enjoy your day :)

In an effort to provide a central place where parents, mentors,
young people and organizations can go to find out what’s
happening for kids in the community, the Windham County
Youth Initiative is creating a comprehensive new web site.
Part of our H.E.Y.! Help Empower Youth campaign, www.helpempoweryouth.com
is an effective way to present the information your organization
needs to get out to the community, through a compelling,
easy resource designed to assist everyone who needs youth-related
support.
Post your events on our special events calendar and publicize
information about the ongoing programs you offer, volunteer
opportunities for adults and youth and ways to contact you.
Just log on to www.helpempoweryouth.com and click on
for organizations to submit your information. We would also appreciate
your feedback on the web site in general and suggestions
as to how it could better serve you.
The H.E.Y.! Help Empower Youth! film, featuring what young
people ages 13 to 20 have to say, is playing on all public
access television stations across the county. Organizations
and civic groups are also viewing the film in monthly meetings.
You are welcome to borrow a copy of the H.E.Y.! Help
Empower Youth film and show it to any group you are a part of. It
comes with a description of the project, discussion questions,
brochures, window stickers and feedback forms.
Be a part of spreading the Help Empower Youth message. Please
contact me to obtain a copy of the film.
Thanks to a contract with Sleeping Lion
Associations, Inc., a feasibility has been completed to help
determine the
best way to address the need of youth, ages 16 to 20, in
our community that find themselves without a stable home.
An executive summary of the study can be found at http://www.helpempoweryouth.com/info/collaboration_org.html
The next Housing for Youth collaboration meeting will be
September 7th, 2:30-4:00 at the Marlboro Technology Center.
We will be looking over the feasibility study and determining
next steps.
Businesses play an important role within our communities
as employers and providers of products and services. Businesses
interact with a variety of community members, young and
old, on a daily basis. The impact they can have in helping
to empower youth is immeasurable.
Check out the attached list of actions businesses can take
to build the assets young people need to grow up healthy,
caring and responsible.
