Youth Summit 2007
*
Thursday,
May 10th at Mount Snow
Organized
by the Windham County Youth Council (WCYC)
The Windham
County Youth Council of 2007 would like to give our
gratitude for the support that so many offered us in
making the Youth Summit a success. Click
here to read the article printed in the Brattleboro
Reformer, reporting on the great outcome. This awesome
accomplishment would not have been possible without
the generosity of over 35
organizations and 50 adult supporters.
“Today
I got to sit down in a group of young people that I've
never met, facilitate an activity with them, and really
get their attention and respect. It's something I've
never really experienced before.”
~ Naomi Kramer,
WCYC member and BUHS student
“It's
an amazing experience to be able to meet and communicate
with youth from around the county, and I think it is
an experience I will never forget.”
~ Katy Ann
is, WCYC member and Dummerston student
* 93% of
youth who attended the Youth Summit felt that they
gained a better understanding of the topics and issued
discussed in workshops.
* About
half (50%) of youth who attended the Youth Summit
stated that they wanted to do something new or different
as a result of what they learned in their workshops.
Examples include:
identify sexual harassment when it happens and try
to stop it
teach people to keep calm in conflict situations and
teach friends how to have effective conversations
with adults
encourage people not to drink and drive
start a band
start a yoga club
be a part of the Race for Reason, a fund raising and
awareness raising event related to the genocide in
Darfur
Thank you again
for your support!
Sincerely,
The Windham
County Youth Council
